Hicks & McCarthy: Est. 1913
Originally, two brothers-in-law (Ike Hicks and John McCarthy) joined together to create an ice cream and soda shop, which quickly became the center of village activity. As time went on, menus expanded and proprietors changed, however the hometown spirit endured.
In 1998, Robert and Patricia Bryant, founders and owners of the popular Fruit & Salad Co. at Eastview Mall, saw Hicks and McCarthy as the ideal spot to realize their dream of creating their own unique café.
“In cities around the world, the café is an extension of home,” says Robert, “and it’s not uncommon to go there for a morning croissant, then later for lunch or a fine dinner.”
In Hicks and McCarthy’s low-key turn-of-the-century décor, showcasing Van Gogh and other post-impressionist work, the Bryants have set the same tone for great food and a casual drop-in ambiance.
“This is a place you can bring family or friends for any special occasion, or come impromptu on a weeknight to enjoy a great dinner,” says Patricia.
